Letter to the Editor
In life promotion, group uses fruitless methods

Ah, the irony. Did anyone else notice those huge trucks from abortionno.org driving for hours slowly through our campus displaying the images of aborted fetuses? ("Trucks bearing abortion pictures drive through town," April 22) I don't know how you could not notice them -- there were six trucks exploiting what they deem as "the dead" to promote their cause. Isn't it ironic that these images come to us on a day set aside for sexual assault awareness? What kind of message do these images send to sexual assault survivors who have had abortions as a result of the crimes committed against them? My question to abortionno.org is the following: Do you find it at all contradictory that, in your effort to save lives (and to promote a Web site with no substance), you are polluting our air -- the air that our children, born and unborn, have to breathe? I tried with a makeshift sign to inform the drivers that they actually may be doing more damage to our children than good.

Responses to my efforts ranged from laughs to anger to nearly causing an accident by switching lanes to avoid me. Isn't life worth protecting for all people, even those who don't share your opinions? I have an idea. Instead of spending your money and time driving aimlessly and polluting our environment, how about spending your time volunteering or donating your money to help disadvantaged families, mothers and children? If your objective was to shock people with your offensive images, congratulations on a job well done. If your objective was to change people's opinions, to persuade them to join your cause, your actions were profoundly ineffective.
