PSU's Meerstein grabs Player of Week honors

Sophomore men's volleyball player Nate Meerstein has been named the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Division I/II Player of the Week, league officials announced.

This is the sixth EIVA Player of the Week honor for Penn State and the first for Meerstein, who was also tabbed as a first team All-East selection.

Meerstein led the Nittany Lions to a five-game victory over IPFW and a three-game win over George Mason last week.

The sophomore middle hitter posted 17 kills and eight blocks while hitting .538 against the Mastodons and led the team with 12 kills and three blocks versus the Patriots the following night. For the week, Meerstein averaged 5.00 points per game, 3.62 kills per game and 1.38 blocks per game while hitting at a .511 clip.

Penn State (20-6) takes on Sacred Heart in the quarterfinals of the EIVA Tournament on Saturday, April 24, at 7 p.m. at Rec Hall.

The semifinals and final of the EIVA tournament will be held at Penn State on Thursday and Saturday, April 29 and May 1.

The winner of the Rutgers-Newark/NYU quarterfinal will play the winner of the Juniata/Springfield quarterfinal in the first semifinal match at 5 p.m.

The winner of the Penn State/Sacred Heart quarterfinal will play the winner of the Princeton/George Mason quarterfinal in the second semifinal match at 7:30 p.m.
