The Penn State men's rugby team came into the weekend with not beating Ohio State in the last two seasons.
They will leave with making it three straight seasons without a win against Ohio State. The Buckeyes beat the Ruggers 51-19 on Saturday. Penn State was the higher ranked team with the eighth seed in the Sweet 16 tournament.
The loss denies Penn State a chance at a national championship this year.
Even worse for the Ruggers was their performance yesterday. They lost to 16-seeded Tennessee in the Pool A consolation game, 43-20. It was Tennessee's first ever trip to the Sweet 16 tournament. It was the sixth straight year that the Penn State men's rubgy team made it to at least the round of 16. They hadn't gone 0-2 in the tournament since 2000.
Navy, who had beaten the Ruggers earlier in the season, advanced to the final four with a win in the round of 8 yesterday. As did Cal Poly-SLO, they beat BYU to advance.
