Letter to the Editor
Solidy your facts before criticizing objectivists

"Contradictions do not exist. Whenever you think you are facing a contradiction, check your premises. You will find that one of them is wrong." I take those words, from Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged, to heart. In Patrick R. Gibbon's letter ("Regardless of beliefs, humans crafted bible," April 15), he makes a few incorrect assumptions as far as reason is concerned. Gibbons contends that man wrote the Bible, therefore it was written using reason and logic. The premise in contention, that everything man does is reasonable and logical, is false. It is preposterous to claim that "man -- using logic and reason -- created these religions." Religion is based on faith, "firm belief in something for which there is no proof," according to Merriam-Webster Online.

Gibbons, do not put words in people's mouths. "You will then say, 'But they wrote this because God told them to do it.' " I never heard or used that argument. "And don't give that excuse that you 'don't know their psychology or other crap.' " I never heard that one either; in fact, it is incoherent.

Anyone who wants to bash objectivists, do me a favor and check your premises.
