Oh, that William Hung. First he sings and dances his way into our hearts as America's favorite Idol reject. Now he's back, and fans are no longer limited to clips of his singing escapades and reruns of his "banging" audition for American Idol.
That's right. William Hung, the man, the myth, the student from UC Berkeley has released his debut album, Inspiration. A strange trip through classic rock, soundtracks and Latin flare, Hung's album hits the highs and lows of each song, surprising his audience with his many styles, if not talents.
Off-beat, with little rhythm or key, this album might receive a review from Simon Cowell with words like "ghastly" or "utterly horrible." I say, listen harder. Sure, this guy is never going to make it, and listening to him try to fit in all the words to "Hotel California" is painful and a little discouraging. But Hung sings with feeling, and anyone who has seen him perform can imagine Hung confidently belting out each wrong note, dancing and trying in true "She Bangs" style.
Between tracks, the album offers short clips of insight from the mind and heart of this determined artist. Regarding passion, Hung says, "I may not be the best singer in the world, but I sing from my heart ... I enjoy what I do -- not for money, not for fame, just for singing." And no matter what is going wrong in your day, with Hung telling you to "just be who you are," how can you feel that bad?
The album, talk shows, music videos, performances, hard work, a great attitude and he's a full time student -- besides singing, is there anything William Hung can't do?
