Train's earned status as one of top bands
As referenced in Paul Thompson's article on the Train concert at the Bryce Jordan Center ("Train proves wedding band potential," April 7), it is obvious that I am a huge fan of Train's music. So, naturally, from observing recent letters in The Daily Collegian, I have become a bit skeptical of the way college students view many big name acts as "wussy" and "uncool." Although radio airplay does not solidify an artist's credibility, it certainly shouldn't hurt it. Many of the artists you hear on the radio have been chosen for playlists over numerous other acts simply because they've written some great songs. Train has gained its reputation without media scandals, a manufactured image or excessive critical praise. This should be a testament to its passion for writing music and hard work through extensive touring in the past. If anyone feels the need to speak poorly of a well-known artist, by all means do so. But, at least give the album a good spin before making judgements based on your weariness of a few overplayed singles. Taylor Kingsbury
