Is it a battle of David vs. Goliath?
Not really, but for the Penn State women's rugby team it is going to be a little lop-sided at the game.
The Penn State Lady Ruggers will take on Clarion tonight at 7, under the lights of the East Rose Garden fields.
The Lady Ruggers are coming off a two-game sweep last weekend and are looking to work their younger players before this month's Sweet 16s start.
"This will be a chance for us to play some less experienced players," Penn State women's rugby coach Peter Steinberg said.
"It's really a chance for us to see who steps up and it will give the players a chance to play for a spot on the Sweet 16 squad."
In the two days between games Penn State has used its limited practice time to work on its scrums and to improve its body position, Steinberg said.
Although there is no requirement for the number of athletes on the roster for the Sweet 16s, Steinberg expects to list 25 or 26 players. Clarion is a Div. II school. Steinberg admits that it won't be their toughest competition, but the game will still be important.
"They may be a division two team," he said.
"But we expect them to be quite strong. We will be playing a lot of our B team players, they'll field all A team players, so the game should be pretty interesting."
