"This weekend really helped us build our depth," women's rugby coach Peter Steinberg said. "With the Sweet 16s, we will be playing two games in two days, so we needed players to fill spots."
"West Chester is a very competitive team," he said. "They are in their respective Elite Eight, so it was a good test for our players."
The Lady Ruggers took advantage of West Chester's thin field and tough scrums to get solid workouts for both the A- and B-team players.
"We gave everyone playing time," Steinberg said. "So both teams were A and B players mixed together. Carol Hood really stepped up against [West Chester]. She did a good job in the scrums."
Although the two games were helpful, Steinberg had hoped to take on Ohio State.
"We were happy to play the two games without any injuries," he said. "But we would have liked to take on Ohio State. They are going to be in our Sweet 16s, so it would've been a chance to see how they run."
The Lady Ruggers will work on specifics this week in practice before their night game tomorrow.
"[This weekend] we really retained possession well," Steinberg said.
"But we struggled to make breaks. We really improved on our scrums, but we will work on our rucking and body positions in contact this week. And we will also spend time on our defensive systems."
