Letter to the Editor
To change, we should return to 'liberal roots'

This is in response to Torie Bosch's admonition of liberals and conservatives for having radio shows that do not contain much real debate, and instead rely on ad hominem and party slogans over and over again ad nauseam ("Sorting opinions in radio airwaves doesn't foster valid discussions," April 5). Why do you suppose the country is polarized right down the middle between Republicans and Democrats? Do you believe it's because politicians legislate based on principle and that people vote based on principle?

As every thinking person knows, all politicians in power, especially Republicans and Democrats, will compromise their core principles to get elected. "Lesser of two evils?" The evil is tossed back and forth between the two parties. In my opinion, this evil is bigger government. If you really want the country to move toward your principles, either economic (conservatives like this) freedom or social (liberals like this) freedom, voting Republican or Democrat will not help.

I encourage everyone to either support groups that really want to return the country to its true liberal (classically liberal, anyway) roots, or cast a blank ballot.
