Undergraduate Student Government (USG) Academic Assembly held elections again last night, despite voting for executive members last week.
President D. Joshua Troxell, Vice President of Operations Mark Levin and Vice President of Programming Brad Hoagland were all elected last week to additional terms. However, Business Faculty Senator TJ Bednash motioned to amend the agenda and redo elections because only one of the elections occurred while quorum, the minimum number of assembly members needed for a vote, was present.
Assembly members nominated Bednash, Hoagland, Levin and Troxell to the presidential ballot. The four gave speeches and fielded questions, with Levin coming out the winner.
Levin said he was not expecting to win. "I personally expected it to turn out same as last week," he said. "I have a lot of loose ends to tie up this year."
Troxell said he would not be involved with assembly next year.
"I will support Mark in any way," he said. "He's very qualified to do the job."
Hoagland won vice president of operations and Science Faculty Senator Tammy Rishel won vice president of programming.
Following elections, Bednash motioned to adjourn the meeting, but Hoagland, citing obligations to students, suggested continuing. After the vote to adjourn failed, Bednash and others left. A four-minute recess was called, and when order was requested, quorum was not met, so the meeting adjourned.
Last night's meeting was supposed to contain legislation banning USG Senate Vice President Takkeem Morgan "from speaking in any official capacity on behalf of the USG Academic Assembly ... until the end of his term" unless assembly members allowed it by a majority vote.
However, the legislation will be moved to next week because of the early adjournment.
Before USG election results were announced last week, Morgan walked on stage and unexpectedly told the crowd, "Wake the fuck up."
Morgan said he thought the proposed legislation was unnecessary.
"I think it's a waste of time and just indicative of what the student leadership has been doing this whole year -- wasting time," he said.
Troxell said he would support whatever assembly members decided.
"Assembly has debated taking action in the past," he said. "This time, [Morgan's] actions represented all of USG. If the body chooses action, I'd prefer this legislation over impeachment."
