Letter to the Editor
Foulke, Adams' use of crude slogan bypassed

I agree with The Daily Collegian's editorial on April 2, which condemned Takkeem Morgan's statement prior to the announcement of the results of the Undergraduate Student Government elections ("Morgan's remark inappropriate for event, hurts his credibility"). I don't think an outburst like that was appropriate, and I agree with many of the alternative methods he could have used to express himself presented in the editorial. I have no problem with the overall message of it.

What irritates me is the blatant hypocrisy exhibited by the Collegian. The Collegian openly supported the eventual winners of the election, Galen Foulke and Luke Adams, in a previous editorial ("Best of bunch: Foulke, Adams can bring Penn State into focus," March 29). What was their campaign slogan? "Foulke 'n A," a clever play on words insinuating an off-color saying. The Collegian didn't condemn this as crude.

There seems to be a lack of professionalism at the Collegian. It rips on Morgan for shouting an obscenity once, and supports a campaign that barraged Penn State with "Foulke 'n A." If I'm supposed to imagine Dick Cheney screaming "wake the fuck up," why shouldn't I picture Bush using a slogan with sophomoric sexual innuendo for his reelection? It's true that there were children present at the time of the remark, but let's mention the fact that the candidates had these same kids running around East Halls telling everyone to "Foulke 'n A" all day prior to that.

The Collegian is a major source of information for Penn State students, and as one of those students, I want to be given the full story.

Hold the same standard for all in your reporting.
