Man charged for theft from 3 local stores

A New York man was charged with retail theft over the weekend after he allegedly stole $3,000 to $4,000 in merchandise from three area businesses. Police said Carlos Pineros, 40, of Elmhurst, N.Y., is facing three counts each of retail theft and receiving stolen property. He was arraigned before District Justice Daniel Hoffman and placed in Centre County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Police responded to Abercrombie and Fitch, 138 S. Allen St., after employees reportedly witnessed Pineros stealing items from the store and pursued him after he left the building, said Cpl. Tom Dann of the State College Police Department.

Pineros also allegedly had items from Victoria's Secret and Express in the Nittany Mall, Dann said.
