Local record label to host three-band show

Collegian Staff Writer

Crowbar, 420 E. College Ave., will help Penn Staters jumpstart their week with a show tonight featuring three rock acts.

Local record label Jump Start Records is showcasing the bands Giving Chase, Deep Enough to Die and The Suicide Pact at the all-ages show. Doors open at 8 p.m., and admission is $5.

According to the label's Web site, www.jumpstartrecords.com, Jump Start Records has been in existence since 1994 and released its first album in 1996. Since then, the label has turned out more than 36 releases and has a roster of active bands, the majority of which tour and perform an average of 150 shows a year. The label's lineup does not only consist of local bands, but it also includes bands from across North America and Europe.

What: Jump Start Records showcase featuring Giving Chase, Deep Enough to Die and The Suicide Pact
When: 9 tonight; doors open at 8 p.m.
Where: Crowbar, 420 E. College Ave.
Details: Tickets to the all-ages show are $5.

The label will host the show tonight, although not every artist performing is signed with Jump Start. One of those bands, Deep Enough to Die, normally records for Dressed to Kill records.

"We're a real high-energy band," said Todd Patterson (junior-telecommunications), Deep Enough to Die guitarist. "We like to get out there and rock out and have fun."

This is the second time the band will play at Crowbar. In December, Deep Enough to Die played a gig with Giving Chase, another local band that will also perform tonight.

"They are really talented, and it was a great show," Patterson said.

Patterson and his band said they are also excited to be performing with The Suicide Pact.

"They are from Philly, and we are really looking forward to playing with them," he said.

Scott Chandler, Deep Enough to Die lead vocalist, emphasized that there will be a variety of music tonight.

"All the bands will cover a specific genre, but we are all different," he said. "One of the bands is more rock influenced, and the other band is heavier. We fall somewhere in the middle."

Deep Enough to Die, which was formed a little more than a year ago, is looking forward to the release of its first album on June 22.

"We put out a demo last October, and we worked really hard on this album," Chandler said. "We couldn't ask for more. I think people will really be able to get into our music."

As for the show tonight, the band is focused on entertaining its fans.

"We want people to come out and have a great time," Chandler said. "We'll play a really good show."
