The sun, the warmth and the dry fields are all gone, as the Penn State softball team returns to Happy Valley for its home opener. One team was ranked No. 10 in the 2004 preseason Insider Lacrosse Magazine preseason poll, the other No. 17. For the first time since beginning Big Ten play, the No. 51 Penn State men's tennis team (11-4, 2-1) will be without the label of the underdog. No long drives, cramped hotel rooms, and even-more-cramped vehicles this weekend. After getting swept last weekend in North Carolina, the No. 18 Penn State (2-7) women's lacrosse team will get another chance to beat a top team and erase those southern blues. It's here ... the big one ... the season's final meet. The stage couldn't be set any more perfectly for the Penn State women's gymnastics team. This weekend, it is strength versus weakness for the No. 9 Penn State men's volleyball team, as it puts its 7-1 home record up against two teams that are winless on the road. Will the rigorous non-conference schedule that the Penn State baseball team went through prior to this weekend pay off?
