Penn State's sole representative at the NCAA Swimming and Diving championships finished 23rd in the three-meter diving finals.
Junior Marc Gastaldo, who after securing a spot in the meet by winning the event at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships in Annapolis, Md., scored 483.6 points.
Meanwhile, Auburn won its second straight swimming and diving championship by setting a record with 634 points.
The previous record of 632 had been set by Stanford in 1992.
Auburn, the alma mater of Penn State assistant coach John Hargis, also set two world records in the process.
Fred Bousquet broke the world record in the 50-meter freestyle (21.10). The record was broken in a 25-meter pool, even though in Olympic competition the pool is 50-meters in length.
His teammate, George Bovell from Trinidad and Tobago, set the world record in the 200-meter individual medley (1:53.93).
Stanford finished in a distant second at 377.5.
Texas (374), Michigan (271) and Florida (266) rounded out the top-five finishing squads.
Texas senior Ian Crocker led all participants with 57 points.
Crocker set the 100-meter butterfly world record at the NCAA championships.
On Friday, he won the NCAA championships for the fourth year in a row. His time in the final was 49.07 seconds.
"This is kind of bittersweet for me," Crocker told the Associated Press. "I can't believe I'm finished at Texas. I've been blessed.
"Now I'll turn pro, and I guess my accomplishments thus far will be my portfolio for the future. One thing I'm happy about is that I'll still be able to train with the guys at Texas for the Olympic trials."
