The words "liberal" and "libertarian" might sound alike, but don't let that confuse you.
Both come from the Latin adjective "liber," meaning "free." However, it sometimes seems there is little freedom espoused in basic liberal or libertarian political beliefs.
To Liberals, the Libertarian idea of freedom is to cut away the safety net while the trapeze artist is mid-flip -- more of a free fall, according to them.
To Libertarians, the liberal idea of freedom is to silence the majority to protect the minority and cry foul whenever an unapproved "diverse" voice speaks up.
Both groups claim to represent freedom, but they continually rob each other of freedom of expression. The groups are incompatible in every way.
Liberals believe in the preservation of the individual. They acknowledge that every person has certain physical needs for food, shelter, money and warmth. They believe that every person has certain inalienable rights that entitle them to necessary amounts of food, shelter, money and warmth. They believe that to accomplish this, the government must help the person in times of need.
Libertarians believe in the preservation of the individual. They acknowledge that every person has certain physical needs for food, shelter, money and warmth. They believe that every person has certain innate capabilities to help themselves to necessary amounts of food, shelter, money and warmth. They believe that to accomplish this, the government must stay away from the person in times of need.
Liberals believe in freedom of speech. They believe that to improve society, we need a free and balanced flow of information and opinions that would expose the complacent majority to the ideas and attitudes of the underrepresented minority. They believe that, eventually, this will bring about peace between all races, genders, socioeconomic classes and people.

Liberals believe in respecting choices. Laws that place absolute bans or strict regulations on abortion, drugs, sex and other personal decisions only create more problems than they solve and make it harder to assist troubled people.

Liberals believe in diversity. They believe that to create a truly equal world, we must acknowledge that we need to remedy the centuries of wrongs committed against minorities.
Libertarians believe in diversity. They believe that to create a truly equal world, we must acknowledge that every opinion is valid and that the current generations in power are not personally responsible for slavery, the Holocaust, and other wrongs committed against minorities in the past.
Liberals believe that to solve society's problems, we must work with the government to establish special programs and work with the people to combat the causes of social problems.
Libertarians believe that to solve society's problems, we must work without the often-bumbling government and work with individual people to combat the causes of societal problems.
Liberals believe that they are right. They believe that their cause is just --just right and just for all. They believe that libertarians continually block liberal rights and impede progress.

Liberals are left-wing, fiery, passionate, educated individuals who will fight to the death for what they believe in.

The left and right wings of the bald eagle look a lot more like each other than they look like the rest of the bird.
And only when the wings work together can the eagle, the symbol of our country, soar.
Otherwise, the entire bird crashes.
