The Penn State greek community is planning for a positive future through their "Greek Pride: A Return to Glory" campaign and a process called Appreciative Inquiry.

Jared Brown, assistant director at the office of fraternity and sorority life, said that an Appreciative Inquiry is a process that looks at a time when the greek community was at it's prime. "It's a time when faculty, students, alumni, community and the national headquarters can come together and focus on the positive and not the negative," he said.

Summit One
Day one: April 2 from 3 to 10 p.m. at HUB Celebration Hall, behind College Gardens
Day two: April 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at HUB Heritage Hall

The process involves collecting data through volunteer interviews and will culminate in April with two "Greek Pride: A Return to Glory" summits.

Interviewers received training early this semester and will finish the interview process before summit. Being a part of the interview process is not required to attend the summit.

Summit Two
Day one: April 22 from 4 to 10 p.m. at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel
Day two: April 23 from 4 to 10 p.m. in the Bryce Jordan Center south gym

The two summits, lasting two days each, will use small and large group discussion to talk about the positive aspects of greek life.

"It's a positive social mixer to improve the greek community," Brown said. "The summit should show how the university supports all 88 chapters, which isn't always the picture that is painted."

Brown said the goal is to have everyone attend all four days because each day builds on the last.

"From all the data collected in the interviews and the summit, we can determine what means are needed to move greek life in the right direction," Brown said.

Interfraternity Council (IFC) President Andy Hackett said he hopes the commitment from the chapters and alumni will ensure commitment from the university.

"We are looking to understand the university's ideas and what they are looking for, as well as for the university to understand our ideas and what we are looking from them," Hackett said.

All 88 chapters within the four councils, IFC, Panhellenic Council, National Panhellenic Council and Multicultural Greek Council, are involved in the summit.

"We encourage greek leaders and students to go register for the summit now," Brown said.
