Penn State will meet the University of Virginia at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Mid-Atlantic Re-gional finals. Princeton will battle Navy, Penn State's perennial rival, in the other first-round game. The finals will be held on Monday afternoon.
Penn State women's rugby coach Peter Steinberg expects nothing less than two tough games this weekend.
"Virginia is a very good team," he said. "They will be big and physical. If we can match their physicality, we can do well. They have a really good forwards, so we will have work hard to win our ball."
This weekend is more important than just getting ready for the Sweet 16 -- it has the possibility of home field advantage at stake.
Penn State has been selected to host the top three seeds in the first round of the Sweet 16, so two wins this weekend will keep the the Nittany Lions from having to leave the friendly confines of State College.
"It is really important," Steinberg said. "The difference in playing here and playing in Florida is so drastic."
This weekend won't go off with out a hitch. Penn State took a major blow last weekend, when scrumhalf and team captain Kim Magini suffered a groin injury. Her status is questionable for this weekend.
"[Virginia] has a really good player in Fiona Faxon," Steinberg said. "So losing [Magini] is a tough break for us."
