Ex-Icers netminder signs minor league contract

Brian Gratz, a former member of the Penn State ACHA Div. I Icers, recently signed a contract to play with the ECHL's Johnstown Chiefs, an affiliate of the San Jose Sharks.

He became the third senior to do so, joining fellow former Icers Bill Dowey and Curtiss Patrick who have also signed with the Chiefs and are playing on an interim basis. Gratz was a member of the 2000 National Championship team before playing two seasons with the Div. II Ice Lions, where he was the starting goaltender and earned All Northeast Region Team, ACHA Div. II and UHL All Conference Goaltender of the year for two straight seasons.

This season he was a part of the three-man rotation in net for the Icers, serving mostly as backup to junior Scott Blackman.

On the season, Gratz played in 11 games, and started six of them. He earned a 6-0 record, including one shutout, a goals against average of 1.60 and a .925 save percentage.
