Although I agree with Jessa Holland's dismissal of Michael Ekworomadu's letter as hateful ("Some students' naïve beliefs shock reader," March 23), stifling those who differ in opinion is a dangerous notion. Weeding out those through the application process who may have dissenting views is almost as stupid as the original letter she is protesting.
College campuses are supposed to be places where ideas, ideologies and philosophies can be debated and discussed. Calling their ideas "idiocy" and calling the writer "an arrogant imbecile" only cheapens her own argument. Respect is what she is calling for, but she gives none to those who do not see her opinion so clearly. For there to be substantive dialogue regarding any issue, we must respect all opinions, even in the face of vast ideological differences.
