USG misses point with elections complaints

With the recent flap regarding the campaign "misappropriations" by the Sandip Trivedi and Monica Constantino presidential ticket ("USG files suit against 2 presidential candidates," March 24), it's no wonder the student population here at Penn State looks at the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) as a triumph of personal agendas and career advancement, rather than a force that properly represents students.

During this three-week campaigning period, I find it preposterous that the USG Elections Commission would waste its time enforcing these frivolous, insignificant campaign-finance rules. The campaign period should be completely focused on the candidates and their messages, the impact of which is much more important than how much someone pays for some copies or 100 T-shirts. Current vice president and Trivedi supporter Takkeem Morgan is correct to concern himself with student issues rather than professionalism. I would suggest that the Elections Commission take on the same priorities, so as to prevent hindering the progress of people who strongly desire to make a positive difference in our student life.
