Attending church can't legally excuse actions

A big problem at this university is the lack of responsibility and accountability people take for their actions. This is evident in the newest letter complaining about parking ("Parking enforcement frustrates PSU student," March 23). She admits to doing something illegal, then feels that the whole community needs to know of her plight and feel sorry for her when she gets caught. Almost every parking lot in central campus is open on the weekends, which means there are more than enough spaces available if you get there early or, God forbid, walk a minute or two.

If you want to try to take a shortcut and "make your own space," then expect to be held accountable for your decision. You knew the rules, and you broke them.

You are also not exempt from the rules simply because you choose to attend church. Nor is it the officer's fault that you were ticketed. One person may be out ticketing, but the rest of the officers working are engaged in the "campus safety" that you obviously take for granted. They make sure you cross the street safely at university events, and continue to make sure you are safe while in attendance. They ensure that no one is breaking into your dorm room at night. They will also happily provide you with directions to the nearest parking lot available for your use.

Don't try to pass off your poor decision as the fault of others. Take responsibility for your actions and have some respect for the officers who are employed to preserve everyone's rights and safety, not just yours.
