Former Pollock/Nittany Sen. Vicky Cangelosi has decided to run for a seat in the Undergraduate Student Government Senate this year, despite her resignation from the body in December.
Cangelosi announced her resignation and intent to withdraw from the university after the Senate formed a committee at its Dec. 9 meeting to investigate the character of the three senators who attended Brian Battaglia's controversial Halloween party: Cangelosi, East Halls Sen. Matt Ritsko and South Halls Sen. Andy Banducci.
The Senate voted to exonerate Ritsko. Although the body did not exonerate Banducci, it voted against sending him to trial.
Cangelosi said the only reason she resigned was that she thought her parents were going to make her withdraw from the university after alleged threats were made against her and others who attended the party.
"If I knew I was going to end up staying, I probably would not have resigned," Cangelosi said.
Senate President Erin Ferris said resigning does not affect a senator's ability to run for another term.
When she announced her resignation, Cangelosi said she felt as though her life was in danger. However, she said she is no longer concerned about her safety. "I think it's a dead issue right now," Cangelosi said. "I think it's been covered from every possible angle, and it's just exhausted."
She added that she does not think her involvement in the party will affect her ability to be elected. She is currently running for South Halls senator.
South Halls Sen. Andy Banducci said he is not seeking another term because he plans to devote more time to the other organizations to which he belongs. East Halls Sen. Matt Ritsko is currently running for re-election.
