The athletic department would not comment on the sexual assault allegation facing football player Lavon Chisley, spokesman Jeff Nelson said yesterday.
Nelson said coach Joe Paterno knew about the allegation before it became public but did not know exactly when Paterno found out.
Nelson also said to the best of his knowledge, Chisley is still in good standing with the football team.
No charges have been filed, and the investigation is still ongoing, according to Penn State University Police.
According to an affidavit of probable cause requesting a search warrant for Chisley's fingerprints, the woman identified Chisley as her assailant when looking through a football program.
Police obtained the search warrant on Feb. 26 and used it to take Chisley's prints to compare them with a partial print on condom wrappers found in the woman's purse.
Police officials would not say whether they had received the results of the tests. Officer Randy Hoffman, who is in charge of evidence for the department, said it could take anywhere from two weeks to six months to get results for any forensic test.
Chisley was not available for comment yesterday.
According to the affidavit, the woman told police the following information about the night in question:
She said she arrived at an apartment in Nittany Apartments with a male friend. There were several football players present. She was intoxicated at the time and walked into a room with an empty bed and passed out. She remembered that before she passed out she met a man who identified himself as "Lavon."
She woke up on two occasions. During the first, she remembers seeing Chisley sitting at the end of the bed fully clothed. She passed out a second time and woke up again for about 30 seconds. It was then that she felt someone having intercourse with her. She said she turned to her left and saw Chisley.
She said she was so drunk that she could not move, adding that she feared getting pregnant or contracting a sexually transmitted disease and thought she might be physically assaulted if she resisted. She told Chisley there were condoms in her purse, grabbed the purse and threw it toward him before passing out again.
When interviewed by police on Nov. 25, Chisley said he was at the apartment in question during the evening of Nov. 22 as well as the early morning hours of Nov. 23. He told police he saw a woman passed out on the couch, left the apartment, then came back to find the woman still passed out.
Initially Chisley told police, "I put her in the bed and closed the door, so I know for a fact that nobody went in and messed with her."
He was later asked when he picked the woman up to carry her to the bed. He said, "I never picked her up. I never touched her."
