Collegian's pessimism won't stop Lady Lions
I can't take it anymore. The Daily Collegian sports reporters are the biggest bunch of pessimists I've ever seen. I bit my tongue all season about their coverage of the men's basketball team. Yeah, the team wasn't the greatest. We can forget they improved ten-fold from last year and things are looking bright for their future. I can let that pessimism slide. But when I read Wade Malcom's attack on the No. 1-seeded Lady Lions, I draw the line ("Trip to New Orleans not in Lady Lions' future," March 16). Going into the NCAA tournament, we should be supporting our team, not putting them down. So what if Connecticut has only been beaten twice at home. It just makes our victory that much sweeter. The reason we got a No. 1 seed is that a bunch of experts in women's basketball thought we were a better team and that a potential game against UConn would be incredible. And they're right on both counts. So Malcolm, get your beads out, because you're going to Louisiana and it's because of the very girls you fail to support in your column. To the Lady Lions: Forget about Malcolm. I've seen you play and you are the best. Believe in yourselves, and I'll have the privilege of watching you win the national title. We believe in you! Now go get some Huskies! Andrew Reeve
