Nittany Lions attempting to repeat

For The Collegian

It took a blizzard to stop the Penn State women's golf team last week in North Carolina.

Now with no signs of inclement weather, it heads down to Orlando, beginning today for the Peggy Kirk Bell invitational championship, and the second tournament of the spring season.

The Nittany Lions look to repeat as champions of the tournament after last year's one stroke victory over the University of Memphis.

The Lions are oming off their best round of golf in the final round of this young season, two weeks ago at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic an are eager to return to the course.

The Lions are a very young team, with the departures of Katie Futcher and, Cindy Skilton, along with three other seniors from last year. The team has had to rely on their underclassmen to step up and fill the void.

The Lions are led by redshirt sophomore and captain Lauren Lundy. She along with sophomores, Katrin Wolfe and Amber Weinerth, as well as freshmen Evelyn Paik and Maggie Lester, hope to continue to lead the team after their performances at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.

After a four-month break of competing in tournaments, the Lions are looking forward to the continuation of the season.

Since Orlando is known more for its sunny weather, a blizzard is out of the question. It looks likes sunny skies ahead for the team as they are back in full swing for the remainder of the season.
