Two games make an opening weekend.
Six games, in three days, make an early season test.
The Penn State baseball club has had the former and now it faces the latter.
Penn State (2-0) is competing in the Palm Beach Classic in Florida over break. The team will play two games each day from Sunday through Tuesday. Two of the games will be against Palm Beach Atlantic with the other four games yet to be determined.
Penn State started the season two weeks ago with a doubleheader sweep of James Madison. The Nittany Lions will look to build off of that success this week and use it as a stepping stone for the rest of the season.
"Spring break is always an important building block," Penn State club baseball coach Dan Day said. "I am not going to be disappointed if we lose a game as long as we play good baseball."
The tournament will give the Penn State pitching staff, especially the hurlers who did not throw in the opening weekend, a chance to get some work in live game situations.
"We're going to have six games and we will get everyone out there," Penn State pitching coach Buck Kicinski said. "To see the staff, as a whole, pitch through a stretch like this [is important]."
The offense had an area of concern in Penn State's opening weekend, when 16 runners were left on base. Day said the players have shown improvement in the past two weeks and everyone feels that this will be a passing problem.
"We will bring [the runners] in," co-captain Dan Hileman said. "We're going to pound some teams so bad they won't want to play baseball anymore."
