Penn State Athletic Director Tim Curley has been selected to participate on a special NCAA task force that will review Div. I recruiting bylaws.
David Berst, vice-president for Div. I, will chair the task force, which includes athletics administrators from the membership and other affiliated organizations.
The group is charged with providing recommendations for new standards to the Div. I Management Council by April. In his 11th year as the leader of the Nittany Lions' athletic department, Curley is one of four Div. I-A athletic directors selected for the task force.
"The task force is charged with taking immediate action to address the issue," NCAA President Myles Brand said in a release. "This signals a new approach by the NCAA to take a leadership position -- a timely and aggressive one when necessary -- in issues of national importance."
The task force's goal will be to review current NCAA rules, paying specific attention to paid campus visits and considering changes to supervision during recruting visits.
"This task force has a big job in a short period of time," Brand said. "We are not going to go through another recruiting calendar in football without new standards in place."
The task force is expected to submit recommendations to the Div. I Management Council for its April 19-20 meeting.
