Bush's firm beliefs only validate his decisions
The gay marriage amendment does have the potential to rewrite history in America. However, not in the direction that this leftist panel of Daily Collegian editors has portrayed it ("Gay marriage amendment can rewrite history of United States," March 1). For once in America, we have a president who is firm in his beliefs and hasn't succumbed to the pressures associated with losing a large portion of the voting public (gay Americans) during an election year. No doubt his ideology is based on his religion, and can someone please tell me why it shouldn't be? We are all shaped in many ways by many of the experiences that we have had in our lifetimes. So, why should a president's religious beliefs be left out of the decisions that he makes for this country? Many of our past leaders have served time in the armed forces, so should their military experience deem them incapable of making unbiased military decisions? Would the argument have the same tone had President Bush not been open on his religious stance? If Bush were an atheist, would you be making the same statements? Jared J. Kappes
