Letter to the Editor
Readers react to Bush’s proposed amendment banning gay marriage

Here we are, criticizing and feeling superior to Afghanistan and Iraq for trying to put Islamic law into their constitutions, while we are doing the exact same thing by banning gay marriage. That is the only argument I ever hear against it. And the worst part is half the country agrees with it. What is wrong with people that they feel the need to impose their will on people over issues that in no way affect them?

The Bill of Rights exists to protect the minority from the majority. I find it funny that Bush keeps using terms like "activist judges" and "institution," when that clearly evokes the same arguments used to justify slavery and to protest school integration.
