For those of you who don't know, skateboarding is illegal at Penn State. Both on campus and in the surrounding areas, if a police officer sees you riding a skateboard, you get fined. Any Penn State student who happens to ride a skateboard for fun has two options: quit a hobby that brings them happiness or ride at the risk of legal trouble. A simple solution to this problem would be for Penn State to build a skate park.
With all the resources Penn State has at its fingertips, it seems as though one should already be built.
Tussey Mountain has a skate park. However, it is closed for more than half the school year because it was built outdoors in this land of snow, the logic of which I can't explain.
There are basketball courts, weight rooms, squash courts, ping pong tables and nearly every other recreational facility imaginable all over Penn State. Give us skateboarders somewhere to ride safely, legally and year-round.
I don't think that's too much to ask.
