Choices key component in examining abortions

Outlawing abortion would be a grave mistake. It would lead to a plethora of back-alley abortions with unsanitary practices, such as using a coat hanger for the procedure. This would obviously have serious risks for the mother's life. In addition, there would also be an increase in such horrible things as unwanted newborns in trashcans, and women trying to hide pregnancies, thereby permanently harming or killing the fetus or newborn. Pro-life advocates should certainly consider the life of the baby in such situations.

Even if none of the aforementioned was to happen, is it really better for the baby to be born? If the parents are not prepared for a child, then certainly the baby will suffer from neglect and/or poverty, not to mention the possibility of having no father.

Think about the baby in this situation, too -- not just the unborn fetus. Remember that being born does not necessarily guarantee life, particularly "the pursuit of happiness." Since "life" is debatable, if you are pro-life and believe it's murder (understandably so), it is simple: Don't pick abortion if you or your significant other becomes unexpectedly pregnant. However, do not impose your beliefs upon others by using the law to force them to conform to your values.

By keeping abortion legal, it does not force you to conform to others' values. Hence, you have your choice and others have theirs. That is where the "liberty" of our Declaration of Independence comes in.
