Human endangerment could alter discussion

In Section 3, Article 8 of the Endangered Species Act (ESA) of 1973, in reference to what is protected under the act, it states: "The term 'fish or wildlife' means any member of the animal kingdom [lists vertibrate and invertibrate categories] ... and includes any part, product, egg, or offspring thereof, or the dead body or parts thereof."

Why is it that the ESA recognizes the right to life of the eggs and unborn offspring of endangered animals, and yet, we do not afford that same right to life to unborn humans? Is it simply because humans are not yet "endangered?"
