A union leader in the state-owned liquor store system said he is concerned that increases in both liquor sales and crime in the State College area may result in store employees losing their jobs.

With her team plodding through poor shooting early in the first half against Iowa, Lady Lions junior guard Tanisha Wright let her frustrations vent. A win is a win, regardless of how it comes. In this weekend's Big Ten women's swimming and diving championships, Penn State's women put together an inspired performance in 20 events over the course of four days of competition. The Penn State men's volleyball team (9-4) accomplished something this weekend that it hasn't been able to do all season: sweep a weekend series. In the six regular-season losses last season, the No. 17 Penn State men's lacrosse team lost by a total of just nine goals, including one-goal losses to ranked foes Notre Dame and Cornell. The warm, sunny weather in Palm Springs, Calif., was about the only enjoyable part of the weekend for the Penn State softball team. The collegiate softball powerhouses in the West made sure of it. Dee Brown apologized to some people in the crowd in the second half for using what he said was inappropriate language after hitting a three-pointer. It may not have been the prettiest weekend for the No. 1 Penn State ACHA Div. I Icers but it was good enough to earn two more wins and give the team its second highest win total for a season. Senior Kevin Tan said following the Temple meet last weekend that the men just needed to relax and compete like they practice. The Penn State women's gymnastics team's trip to Ohio State didn't go as planned this weekend. Penn State assistant baseball coach Randy Ford said that the biggest thing for his pitchers at the start of the season would be to just get outside. Two concepts of doubles play are the serve and the return. Both are starting to pay off for the Penn State men's tennis team. In response to Saturday's matches at Mansfield University, Penn State boxing coach Alex Komlev expressed a feeling representative of the team's progress over the past month.

Although HBO has been toting the slogan, "the love affair ends," for weeks now, the series finale reminded viewers why they fell in love with it over the past six years.
