Three injured in crash; driver gets DUI charge

Three people were injured early Friday morning in an alcohol-related car accident at the intersection of Westerly Parkway and University Drive.

According to State College Police Department reports, Rachael Schu, 27, of Spring Mills was traveling eastbound on Westerly Parkway at about 12:40 a.m. when she failed to stop for a flashing red light and struck a Lincoln Continental headed southbound on University Drive.

The Lincoln was driven by Georgia Fink, 56, of State College, police said.

The collision caused Schu's Jeep Cherokee to catch fire. She and her passenger were able to escape their vehicle. Fink was able to escape her vehicle but Alpha Fire Co. members removed a passenger from the car, police said.

Fink and the passengers of both vehicles were transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment of moderate to minor injuries. Schu was arrested for driving under the influence, and blood tests showed her blood alcohol content to be .094. The accident closed the intersection for about an hour.
