NEWS

Rebecca Allen (junior-architectural engineering) put her feelings about Thon into words and won.

In two weeks, many Penn State students will escape from State College during spring break, and local businesses are already profiting as students prepare to look their best.

Through donating used cell phones, anyone has the capability to take a stand against domestic violence and potentially save a victim's life.

Though voter registration in Pennsylvania has increased, Centre County voter registration has decreased by over 13 percent, and the county also contains the most inactive voters in the state.

The Undergraduate Student Government (USG) Senate has not decided whether to exonerate or impeach South Halls Sen. Andy Banducci more than two months after the body voted to investigate his role at a controversial Halloween party.

Jim Powell has come full-circle in his journey from a dancer in the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon to a Four Diamonds Fund pediatric oncologist at Hershey Medical Center.

A new statewide building code that will go into effect April 9 could lengthen the timetable for future construction projects at Pennsylvania state-related institutions, including Penn State.

Representatives from minority admissions at Penn State attended a conference Wednesday in Philadelphia to compare trends with schools such as University of Delaware, Temple University and the University of Pittsburgh.

A Centre County Transportation Authority (CATA) bus struck a vehicle from behind at about 2:30 Wednesday afternoon.

A year's worth of effort becomes 48 hours of fun at 7 tonight when Rec Hall opens its doors to the 31st annual Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon.

The net has widened.

Arica Rudnick's summer internship at a small New York City design company escalated into a Interfraternity/Panhellenic Dance Marathon fund-raising opportunity when she returned to Penn State sporting unusual handbags.

Local business owners and community members voiced their concerns as well as possible ideas in an attempt to resolve the continuing debate regarding the Urban Village redevelopment plan last night.

As the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon approaches, dancers have many things to look forward to, and encouraging treats will be abundant this year.

SPORTS

The warm weather in Palm Springs may sound inviting to students at Penn State this time of the year. However, for the Penn State softball team the competition awaiting its arrival is anything but inviting.

One exhibition match against No. 1 Johns Hopkins allowed them to see how they matched up against one of the NCAA's best, the other exhibition match against Lehigh helped them test how deep the waters were on their own sideline.

It may be hard to believe, but at some point the 10 inches of snow that is perpetually on the ground will melt, the air will become warm and Penn State will once again be able to host a baseball game.

If looking through a fencing mask wasn't awkward enough, the Penn State fencing team will now take on the challenge of keeping one eye on regionals and the other on Sunday's opponents.

Like Mike Tyson after one of his tune-ups against the likes of Clifford "Glass Jaw" Etienne, it is time for the Penn State Boxing team to finally step up and see what it has got.

For the Penn State Lady Icers, this week has been about change.

This is when the real season starts. Those other 30 games didn't mean as much.

Rugby is a rough sport normally played outside on grass -- a nice, semi-soft surface.

If you want to call it a meaningless set of games, go ahead, you've got a point.

They've both been No. 1 this year.

At last Saturday's meet, the Penn State women's gymnastics team won on Minnesota's mistakes, rather than its own routines. This weekend, though, No. 22 Penn State is relying solely on its own gymnasts to come out with a victory tomorrow night on the road.

Beating Wisconsin was the easy part.

The No. 12 Penn State men's volleyball team is on a mission. It is not looking to win the championship. Right now they would settle on just finding out what kind of team it is.

Losing five straight games is no fun. Losing a sixth straight on national television would be a lot worse.

It's not much more than a plain, blue and white banner.

His photograph hangs in a black frame in the wrestling practice room at Rec Hall along with past Penn State wrestling greats.

Going into the second day of competition at the Big Ten women's swimming and diving championships, Penn State's goal was to remain within striking distance going into the weekend stoke events.

ARTS

Usually, when a new album sounds like one previously released by an artist, I complain. I mean, these people are being paid lots and lots of money to come up with palatable, if not good or great, music. And when a "new" CD is made, it shouldn't sound like it's the same thing the musician has done before. I'm not happy about spending money on something I already have.

I've never been to Europe, and there's at least a reasonably good chance you haven't either. Luckily there's Eurotrip, a new movie distilling the entire European experience down to a couple of dirty jokes and a few culturally insensitive conventions. It's like you're really there!

As one of hip-hop's premier producers, Kanye West has laid tracks for practically everyone who's anyone. As a rapper, though, he's a nobody, just a beat-maker lucky enough to get a verse in on other people's tracks. But I hope that won't be the case for long.

Monster doesn't take sides. It just shows us things.

Walrus vomit is a movie reviewer's best friend.

'America's Sweetheart'

Enchantments of Ireland, an exhibit by local artist Michelle Montes, will be on display at the Artisan Connection Gallery, 206 S. Allen St., starting tomorrow. The exhibit focuses on the natural beauty of Ireland and the benefits of land conservation as experienced by the artist during recent travels to the country.

They can pull rabbits out of hats. They can make objects disappear before people's eyes. They even get to chill with University President Graham Spanier.
