For the Penn State Lady Icers, this week has been about change.
Penn State Lady Icers coach Chris Whittemore made some lineup alterations during Sunday's 4-3 overtime loss at Ohio State. During the team's on-ice practices this week, Whittemore decided to keep some of the changes.
How everyone views the changes will depend on "how we do in live action," junior forward Katie King said.
Whittemore said Alex McVicker, a junior forward, will see action on defense, and Dana Voelker, a freshman defenseman, will play forward. Both played those positions last weekend.
"This weekend, they're going to be in those positions," Whittemore said. "Whether we continue with it, we'll just have to wait and see."
The Amateur Penguins and Wolves are both club hockey teams, meaning no one really knows what to expect from them.
Some are talented and experienced; the Lady Icers had a pair of close games against the Erie Lady Lions in Penn State's an exhbition series before the season. The Lady Icers won the first game 5-4 in overtime and tied Erie 2-2 in the second
"You don't really know what you're going to get," Whittemore said. "They're going to be hopefully good competition for us."
"We're not sure how the teams are going to be," King said. "We have to stick with our system, whether they're bad or good. We have to do what's going to help us best later on, not just what's going to help us with this game."
It should serve as a final warm-up for the ECWHL Final Four in Kingston, R.I., next weekend.
