Letter to the Editor
Voicing opinions leaves opening for criticism

If I, as a liberal, was to respond intolerantly to Patrick Gibbons' rant about the mistreatment of conservatives ("Conservative students' complaints go unheard," Feb. 19), I might go so far as to say he is a self-serving, ignorant redneck who has nothing better to do than whine about delusions that he is an oppressed minority. But that would do nothing better than support his outrageous claims.

Gibbons' arguments of intolerance are completely unfounded. The Daily Collegian does not sweep "intolerance of conservatives" under the rug. If it did, it would not have printed Gibbons' letter or the countless columns written by Andrew Criado that pointed the finger at liberal wrongdoings.

Who are these instructors calling conservatives racist Neo-nazis? Maybe they mistakenly thought they saw photos of attendees at Brain Battaglia's Halloween party dressed as Ku Klux Klan members and black-faced people alongside College Republicans.

If people, as conservatives, say that affirmative action is wrong and defend their reasons rationally, so be it. In expressing political opinions, however, you put yourself out there to be judged and scrutinized.

Tolerate it.
