CATA bus hits vehicle on East Beaver Ave.

A Centre County Transportation Authority (CATA) bus struck a vehicle from behind at about 2:30 Wednesday afternoon.

Kristin Silberman was driving a 1997 white Jeep Wrangler eastbound on East Beaver Avenue. According to a police accident report, Silberman said she was unfamiliar with the area and was looking for Beaver Terrace apartment building, 456 E. Beaver Ave. When she was in the area of Wing Zone, 433 E. Beaver Ave., she said she saw Beaver Terrace and then signaled and slowed. She said the bus then hit her vehicle from behind. She said she was driving about 25 mph.

According to the report, the driver of the CATA bus, James Ewing, said he did not see a turn signal. He said Silberman suddenly hit the brakes and he was unable to stop.

Silberman initially said she was uninjured in the accident, but later told police that her neck was sore when her boyfriend arrived at the scene. According to the report, Silberman's boyfriend insisted an ambulance be called because Silberman was "unable to make a judgement call on injuries." Alpha Community Ambulance Service transported Silberman to Mount Nittany Medical Center. She was later released.
