NEWS

Democracy and the privileges that accompany it are mostly found in the United States but are not utilized to their fullest potential, some professors say.

A sizable Centre County cave dubbed J-4 has recently been closed to local cavers because of its potential risk of injury to those who would venture inside.

One million dollars from the estate of Louis E. Silvi has created the Louis E. and Patricia Harvey Trustee Scholarship for the Penn State hotel, restaurant and institutional management undergraduate program.

Undergraduate Student Government (USG) Academic Assembly passed several pieces of legislation last night at its weekly meeting, including a resolution to begin discussion concerning possible changes to the university's drop/add schedule.

One would think that a book studied for more than 150 years would be unable to hide anything from its readers, but a Penn State professor has proved this idea wrong.

With only a few days left until the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, students are feeling the pressure from both Thon activities and classwork.

Penn State President Graham Spanier will appear before the state Legislature in Harrisburg next Wednesday to request increased state appropriations for the upcoming fiscal year.

SPORTS

When Penn State men's gymnast Kevin Tan took his place on the still rings Saturday night, he performed as advertised: perfectly.

It's often said that "offense wins games, defense wins championships."

Kristen Reed knew her debut in net for the Lady Icers was coming -- she just didn't know when.

Many people likely view table tennis, or ping pong as it is more commonly called, as a passive, recreational game where people stand around a table hitting a plastic ball back and forth for fun.

Some see major college sports as enjoyable events for spectators that provide great opportunities for athletes.

With No. 1 Penn State ACHA Div. I Icers (30-2) looking to increase their lead to three goals on the power play, Robert Morris (17-20-3) needed goaltender Aaron Merkle to come up with some big saves and keep it in the Saturday's game.

Troy Sunderland rose to his feet and jumped up and down like he was trying to put a hole in the Rec Hall floor.

On paper, tonight's match should be no contest. If that turns out to be the case, then there really was no reason to reschedule it in the first place.

Although still 140 million miles and at least 12 years from human exploration, humans are getting closer to setting foot on Mars everyday.

Daydreams of the beach float through her mind as she huddles under covers in her dark dorm room. After 16 hours of sleep, she awakes, wondering where her day has gone. Since early October, her ambitions of doing homework and going to the gym have been replaced with long hours of crying and feasting on Ben and Jerry's ice cream. Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) has consumed her life, but she's not alone.

Snakes lost their legs on land, not in the sea as previous scientists thought, according to new research by professor of biology S. Blair Hedges and postdoctoral fellow Nicolas Vidal.

Frozen dinners, spaghetti sauce and soup seem to be a staple for the average student. These foods, though convenient and cheap, contain high levels of sodium, putting students at risk for disease.
