One million dollars from the estate of Louis E. Silvi has created the Louis E. and Patricia Harvey Trustee Scholarship for the Penn State hotel, restaurant and institutional management undergraduate program.

The trustee scholarship program aims to provide financial support for undergraduates so a Penn State degree is possible for all qualified individuals.

The Board of Trustees agreed to match 5 percent of the gift with university funds to improve the financial impact of the scholarship.

Silvi served for 20 years as general manager of the Nittany Lion Inn and was named Penn State assistant vice president for business in 1977.

He had been a member of multiple hotel, restaurant and lodging associations at the time of his death in July 2003.
