The matchup between Penn State's and Ohio State's club women's ice hockey programs this weekend will probably feature a lot of goals and a lot of tight play.
Both teams have a penchant for scoring. Penn State has scored 111 times in its last 18 games, while Ohio State has scored 85 times in 12 games.
This weekend's showdown between the two in Columbus should be close, Penn State Lady Icers coach Chris Whittemore said, since the teams are at a similar level.
"They've had some pretty good games against some top teams in the ACHA," Whittemore said. "It looks to be they're going to have a pretty good team we're going up against."
Ohio State is 10-1-1 and plays an independent schedule. Last weekend it earned 10-0 and 6-0 wins against Michigan State, the ACHA's No. 2 team. The weekend prior it tied and lost to No. 1 Robert Morris.
Whittemore said the Lady Icers have been working hard in practice this week on a number of things that will help against Ohio State and teams it may face in the ACHA national tournament next month, including the power plays.
"We're trying to get ready for nationals," Whittemore said. "We're starting to gear up, do little things we need to do [to prepare]."
Through 16 league games junior Katie King is ranked by the ACHA as the third-leading scorer among Eastern teams with 17 goals and 12 assists.
Ohio State center Shannon Wilson has scored 18 goals in 10 games, according to the Buckeyes' Web site.
