Imagine a five-on-one basketball game. For one of the few times in the game, the crowd at the Bryce Jordan Center erupted. Just 12 days ago, senior Penn State saber fencer Heather Brosnan gained her 100th career victory in a dual meet. On Oct. 17, 2000, Penn State Icers coach Joe Battista made a prophetic statement that Miss Cleo can only dream about. When asked for an opening statement on Tuesday's Big Ten teleconference, Penn State women's basketball coach Rene Portland made it simple. Jeremy Hart threw his headpiece to the mat and stormed out of the wrestling practice room in Rec Hall. After a unanimous vote by Big Ten football coaches in January favoring the use of instant replay for league games, the NCAA Football Rules Committee also approved the measure yesterday. Female genitalia: They're something rarely mentioned. And when they are discussed, it's often in terms that some might find offensive. Casting, directing and rehearsing for a play about the joy of the male genitalia within the span of a week can be a very tiring ordeal, but the Outlaws Theatre group is certainly up to the task. The largest-scale production ever to grace the School of Theatre stage is almost here. OK, so you've been lucky enough to snag a date for Valentine's Day. In a college town, where many of us are spending Valentine's Day single, the country singer of "Who's Your Daddy" could be the perfect man to spend the holiday with. William Shakespeare has a special place in everyone's heart. For some, it might be a fairly sour place; but maybe that's the reason why No Refund Theatre's (NRT) production of The Complete Works of Shakespeare Abridged is set on poking fun at everything Shakespearean. It has played for the Pope. The spotlight will shine on some of the School of Music's brightest musicians Sunday afternoon as the Penn State Philharmonic Orchestra showcases the winners of its recent concerto competition. After sneaking into the townships of South Africa to learn music at the age of 12 and protesting apartheid for several years, Sharon Katz and her band The Peace Train will perform at 9 p.m. Monday at Crowbar, 420 E. College Ave. While many consider Feb. 14 solely a day to celebrate love and relationships, there are other festivities occurring that day to embrace the four-week celebration of Black History Month. At 7:30 tonight, classical bassist Edgar Meyer and banjo virtuoso Béla Fleck will play an acoustic show at Eisenhower Auditorium. For Scott Bailey, frontman of Tycoon Dog, questions about the style of music his band plays are best tackled with some wisdom from comedian Steve Martin. Men and women rarely find themselves on common ground when it comes to romantic comedies, but very often around Valentine's Day, star-crossed lovers and "one true love" beat out car chases and explosions. I don't have a date for Valentine's Day, but I'm not sweating it. When everybody else is out swillin' and swoonin' and spendin', I'm pretty down for a quiet evening at home with my Sea Monkeys and my records. Sure, I might not be number one with the ladies come Saturday, but after you've all emptied your pockets into dinners you can't afford and wine that isn't Mad Dog, I'll still be able to make a great mix CD. And isn't that really what the females are looking for? Don't answer that question. Give me my dignity. The revolution has been televised. The revolution does feature cheesy techno and rave music. The revolution does utilize the largest video game controller since the original Nintendo's Powerpad. Viva Dance Dance Revolution! Suessical the Musical rhymes into town 2 p. m. Feb. 29 at Eisenhower Auditorium. My Opinion: Jay Barimani
