Readers react to story on IFC’s plan to establish ‘rape-free’ zones

I'm glad to see that the IFC has finally realized that rape is a bad thing. Up until yesterday, I thought all fraternity members were pro-rape. But now I am relieved that Andy Hackett and others will be providing seminars educating people about how not to be a rapist. Now all the fraternities will have to take down their "rape zone" signs and replace them. And members will be force-fed information about how they "hold the power to stop rape in their hands."

I'm guessing the rapists out there aren't going to care whether there is a sign on the door. They also aren't going to care about some frat boy explaining the horrors of rape to them.

Rapists' thoughts: "Well, I've been raping women for years now, and I love it. But now that the IFC is telling me it's not such a hot idea, I think I'm going to stop and rejoin our civilized society. And I think I'll give Andy Hackett a hug."

Instead of giving people a false sense of security by telling them there is no chance that a rape will occur in a fraternity house, why don't we protect the women? I'm fairly confident that a rapist is less likely to rape someone if he knows there is a chance the woman is strapped with a 9mm or a large-caliber Glock.

But, I guess signs work, too.

Maybe every woman can tattoo herself with "Rape-Free Zone." Yeah, I'm sure that will work.
