Altoona man charged with two retail thefts

An Altoona man was charged with one count each of criminal attempt, retail theft and criminal conspiracy yesterday in an arraignment for two separate theft incidents.

On Dec. 11, State College Police responded to a call from Lowe's, 249 Lowes Blvd., where John Kearney and another man allegedly stole two power drills.

According to court documents, an employee tried to stop the men, but they fled. Another employee was able to obtain the license plate number of the vehicle.

In a separate incident, Kearney and a woman were apprehended after the manager of Kaufmann's Department Store, 2900 E. College Ave., reported that a man and woman had entered the store and stolen a food processor and a toothbrush.

Kearney is being held on $10,000 bail in Centre County Prison.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, February 18 at the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte.
