Deck restrictions cause problems for student

Many students have been angry with the recent enforcement of parking regulations at the HUB ("Parking deck restrictions crack down on students," Feb. 2). I, too, have been upset, but it was only on Monday that I realized how truly absurd the situation is.

I severely injured my foot Sunday. When the pain and swelling had not subsided by Monday morning, I decided to go to Ritenour. Of course, my reason for going to Ritenour in the first place made simply getting there a challenge. I was able to take the Loop. However, even the walk to and from the bus stops can be a problem when your foot may be broken. I couldn't drive myself because the parking ticket I would have incurred would have been almost as ridiculous as my medical fees.

After hobbling to the health center, the doctor put me on crutches. Anyone who has tried walking on crutches in the ice and snow won't be surprised by how exhausting and dangerous the task is. Not only are there no accommodations to help me during the day, but even during the evening I am not allowed to drive myself onto campus to attend meetings, work or study sessions, because I do not posses a parking pass.

We all know how inconvenient the parking situation is for students, but Penn State should at least be accommodating toward those with injuries.
