Ice Lions face tough test in form of Big Ten rival

Collegian Staff Writer

The Penn State Ice Lions should be in for an interesting test this weekend. They play at Ohio State and, according to their website, the first 1,500 fans get in free. The Ice Lions don't normally see that many fans at home.

The Buckeyes are also selling $5 Club Hockey 2004 calendars. A calendar may not seem like a big deal, but it involves pretty women. So expect a big crowd.

Both teams are riding win streaks of four games coming in to their two-game clash. Both have beaten the No. 1-ranked teams in their region (Penn State beat NYU and OSU beat IUP), and are also ranked in the top 5 of their regions as well.

Ohio State has had great special teams this season. Against IUP, the Buckeyes shut out its power play. Penn State Ice Lions coach Mo Stroemel has seen IUP's power play over the years and says it's nothing to put in the back of your mind.

For the first time in weeks, Penn State can concentrate all of its energy on one team which they feel is a benefit, especially given the talent of Ohio State.

But due to the weather, Penn State was again not able to practice Tuesday.

"It gave us a chance to rest since we have played so many games already, but we don't want to get rusty," Stroemel said.

It also may force the games to be cancelled this weekend if the storm predicted for this morning comes true. The players know Ohio State will be tough, especially given last week's pasting of Pennsylvania.

"We know some stuff about them. They keep their shifts short and they will help them stay in the game," Stroemel said. " We are just keeping our fingers crossed with the weather."
