The 17 graduating seniors on the Penn State women's track roster will be honored before tomorrow's meet in what should be a tear-filled pseudo-send-off.
The Nittany Lions decided to hold Senior Day earlier this season. Though the squad has one more home meet left, along with the entire outdoor season, tomorrow's meet will be preceded by a brief ceremony at 12:45 p.m. to honor the seniors.
Penn State women's track and field coach Beth Alford-Sullivan is taking advantage of a lighter weekend schedule to highlight the accomplishments one of the most outstanding classes in Penn State history.
One senior, pole-vaulter Sara Dougherty, was named Big Ten Indoor Track Athlete of the Week this week after her record-breaking vault last weekend at the Penn State National Open. The team will use this meet to prepare for bigger ones.
"We're just doing the same old stuff this week that we've been doing all year in these smaller meets," Alford-Sullivan said. "We'll be taking it easy, training through it, making sure some people see some action to make sure everything's moving along."
The Lions won their last two meetings with both Penn and Princeton, and should have no trouble getting another victory tomorrow.
Standout senior Connie Moore will be rushing back to State College from New York City late tonight.
Moore has been invited to compete in tonight's 97th Annual Verizon Millrose Games at Madison Square Garden. She will compete in the 60-meter dash.
