I just wanted to comment on the snow removal situation at Penn State. I agree with the letter written by Gary L. Ward that was printed in The Daily Collegian ("OPP responds to letters criticizing removal job," Feb. 4).
As someone who worked snow removal in Maryland for eight years before coming here, I can certainly appreciate the job that is done at Penn State when it snows.
I think the removal crew here does an excellent job, given the amount of territory it has to cover. I think the problem is the administration not giving the removal crew enough time. It's the "we are Penn State, and we have to stay open at all costs" attitude on the administration's part that hurts the snow removal efforts. If the university would delay classes once in a while, then maybe the removal would be more complete by the time everyone is on campus.
Instead, it seems that the removal crew always has to work around students because there rarely are delays or closings.
To the snow removal crew, I just want to say thanks and keep up the good work.
