A 61-year-old woman was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center for minor injuries after her car struck another vehicle at about 8 a.m. yesterday, the State College Police Department said.
According to a police accident report, Howard resident Janet Miller pulled out in front of a truck traveling westbound on Whitehall Road as she was making a left turn from Blue Course Drive. The second motorist, Justin Howes of Pleasant Gap, told police he was driving 15 to 20 mph when Miller pulled out in front of him. He said he was unable to stop before she struck him. Miller was driving about 10 mph, according to the report.
Miller told police she had difficulty seeing the westbound traffic on Whitehall Road because of a pile of snow. According to the police report, however, there was no snow obstruction. The report also said that Miller is 4 feet, 10 inches tall and was sitting on two pillows at the time of the accident.
Miller was cited for a stop sign violation.
Alpha Fire Co. took Miller to Mount Nittany Medical Center after she complained of pain in her back and ribs. She was later released.
Both Miller's 1994 Pontiac Sunbird and Howes' 2001 Ford F-150 were towed from the scene. Howes' truck sustained minor front-end damage and Miller's car had major damage on the left side.
